About The Artist

Corry MacDonald (b. 1971, Edmonton, Canada) is a contemporary mixed-media artist and self-described sensorial expressionist. Her work sings of both the passion of nature, the awe of simple beauty, and the reaching for the rich complexity of things sensed and felt beyond what the eyes see. She creates immersive works as an invitation into the soul’s intuitive remembrance of its beauty-filled nature amid life’s grit and grace.

MacDonald begins pieces by building a strong mixed-media foundation both with collage (often using maps, multilingual text, and images of botanicals as a nod to her reverence for nature in her cross-cultural living) and texture (using intuitive gestural marks, spray paint, and gritty gel mediums). She then turns to oil paint to create space and atmosphere while still capturing the simplicity of a moment. The subject draws the viewer in, even as the eye is drawn to corners enlivened with layered glimpses of light. A sense of place is accessible and intimate, yet contained with energy almost metaphysical and out of reach. Says Corry, “I aim to unearth the extraordinary that lies hidden within our everyday lives.”

MacDonald is making a full-circle return as a professional artist after graduating thirty years prior with a Bachelor of Art and Design with distinction. Creating large-scale artworks on the back of her father’s discarded survey maps as a young child, she couldn’t have known then that her husband and three children would eventually map seven cross-cultural moves around the globe while she worked as an expressive art therapist (and authored Life in Full Colors). Currently residing in Belgium, Corry has exhibited in Japan and Thailand. Her artwork is held in private collections in Canada, the USA, Japan, Dubai, the UK, Australia, Thailand, and Sweden.
